Eventually humans will be able to communicate by thought, through computers, which will be available to everyone probably within a couple of decades. Currently the people who can currently communicate by thought with powers of ESP are limited in their abilities. These strong minds are rare in their numbers and are about the only human beings with a chance of thought transfer. It is quite possible that all humans once had these abilities to a much larger degree but over the tens of thousands of years we lost that ability as the civilizations grew.

Parents and children often have such mind thought transfer abilities, when a baby needs mothers-milk or a child is in trouble and needs help.
