Microsoft Publisher Basics For those who still don’t know, Microsoft Publisher 2000 assists users to easily produce, modify and print materials such as flyers, catalogs, brochures, newsletters and websites. I have two tutorials in this article that can hopefully help you get started with this software and may solve some of the problems that you’ll encounter when you use it as a first-timer. The first tutorial discusses about how to pack your publication to take to another computer. First, go to “File/Pack and Go/Take to Another Computer”. The Pack and Go Wizard brings you all throughout the different steps of the packing process. Then, click “Next” to move to the following step. If you're transferring your publication on disk to another computer, click “A:” when the wizard asks you to select a location where your file will be saved. Also, click “Browse", select the drive and folder you want, and click “OK” if you're placing your files on a network, on an external drive, or on your computer's hard disk. Click “Next” afterwards. To insert TrueType fonts and to make links for embedded graphics, select the choices you want and put in a check mark. To take out the linked graphics, click to remove the check mark. Click “Next” then click “Finish”. If Publisher cannot find a linked graphic while packing your publication, you can either do one of the following methods: click “Retry” after you insert the disk or CD-ROM having the original graphic into the appropriate drive, click “Skip” to leave the current link and change the graphic later, or click “Browse” to situate a graphic that has been moved or to select another graphic and link it. Then, insert another disk if Publisher asks you and click “OK”. The second tutorial deals with the procedure on how to set up a publication for black and white commercial printing. First, go to Tools/Commercial Printing Tools/Color Printing. If you’ll have black and white printing, click Spot color(s)/Change Spot Color in the “Print all colors as” box. In the “Choose Spot Color” dialog box, click “Black and white only”. Then, click “OK” twice. For process-color printing, on the other hand, click “Process colors (CMYK)” in the “Print all colors as” box, then click “OK”. For spot-color printing, click Spot color(s)/Change Spot Color in the “Print all colors as” box. In the “Choose Spot Color” dialog box, click the arrow next to “Spot color 1”, then pick the color you want. If you want to select a color that is not currently used in the publication, click “More Colors”, select the color you want, and then click “OK”. To pick a “second spot color”, click the check box to the left of “Spot color 2”, and then click the arrow to the right and click the “second spot color”. Then, click “OK” twice. Indeed, Microsoft Publisher 2000 is a software program that’s also destined to become important.
