There are lots of designers who think they know everything
there is to know when it comes to web site designing. However,
it seems that they still lack in understanding some of the basic
concepts that goes with web design. Just take for example the
purpose of text in the whole designing process.
Some of the most common mistakes committed by web designers are
using graphics or Flash for text. One harmful effect of using
graphics or Flash for text is that it increases the size of the
page. In addition, it is not search engine friendly and
oftentimes graphics came out poor in quality or jaggy. And above
all mistakes in graphics or Flash for text are not that easy to
correct.
Another most commonly committed web designing mistake is
creating text that doesn’t stand out against the background. The
problem with this kind of design is that it hurts the eyes.
Likewise, it is a bad design idea to have alternate color in the
links.
Web designers are also fond of using small text most especially
on sites with Flash. These kinds of sites are usually shunned by
older people since the texts on these sites are hard to read.
Another designing mistake is the inclusion of too much material
on one page. With too much content all grabbing the attention of
the visitor will somehow destruct the visitor away from his very
purpose in visiting your site in the first place. Remember that
people have the tendency to get confused and if that happens
your web visitors are likely to leave. A web site with so many
unrelated material means that the web site was not properly
organized and would exude an image of poor planning on your
part. This kind of web site usually ends up having poor
navigation.
Web designers oftentimes are so engrossed in their desire to
show off their creative prowess that they sometimes forget that
web sites are suppose to look what they are suppose to be
promoting. Most of the sites committing such mistakes are
medical web sites wherein the doctors are shown wearing tuxedo
than their normal doctor uniform. These usually are overlooked
by some web visitors thinking that the site is probably one of
those sites that promotes dating. That’s because pictures on web
sites are used to represent the concept of the web site. And if
your web visitors reject you site because of the pictures it
contains then the very purpose of the web site is defeated.
Most web designers just can’t get their hands off Flash. Flash
is a designing software that is commonly misused and abused.
Have you ever encountered a web site that makes use of a Flash
intro that you have to wait twenty seconds or more since there
are no skip intro button? Irritating isn’t it. The reason why
there are no skip button is because a skip button would imply
that the content on the page is worthless and therefore not
worth your time.
